What is BFFS?
Biological Factors in Friendships Study (BFFS) is a research project conducted through Rhode Island College by Dr. Emily Cook that examines how emerging adults (18-25) cope with emotions in their close friendships. Friendships are important influences on development and our lab is interested in understanding if friends can shape how each other manage emotions during times of conflict. WE ARE CURRENTLY RECRUITING PARTICIPANTS FOR THIS STUDY.
For this study, you must be:
-Between the ages of 18-25
-Have a same-gender close friend who is willing to participate in the study with you
-Live in driving distance of Rhode Island College
If you decide to participate, what will you do?
- Be willing to come to a private laboratory space at Rhode Island College with a friend for about 2 hours.
- Participate in an interaction task with your close friend where you will discuss issues of conflict.
- Fill out questionnaires about your friendship and how your life is going in general.
- Have basic measures of heart rate, emotions, cortisol and alpha amylase taken during your visit.
- Give a short speech about friendships to a small group of observers
- Be paid $25 for being part of this study.
